Take into consideration that although the bathroom is relatively small, the skills needed to complete your bathroom remodel are the same skills needed to build a house. Electrical, plumbing, flooring, wall coverings, - let alone a design for the bathroom to begin with. Oftentimes homeowners will tear out their tub and shower only to realize they don’t have the expertise to replace the studs, plumbing, backer board, and more that are behind all that tile! If you’ve done the tear-out and realize you’re in over your head, calling a contractor when you’re desperate can leave you open to price gouging.

2. Not having a proper new bath design laid out at the beginning can lead to problems down the road with your new bathroom. After all, remodeling can be a big undertaking, so you want to be sure to understand the value of what you choose when upgrading to your new bathroom. When people think of a single shower unit, they often imagine a cramped, cave-like stall stuck in corner. This is very common in Houston. Converting from a tub to shower can open up the space in your new bathroom, creating a spa-like feel. Consider the last time you used your bathtub. You probably can’t, right? While the proper bathtub set-up can be beautiful, most new bathrooms can benefit more by using that space for a walk-in shower. Traditional bathtubs take up, on average, anywhere from 60×30 to 60×42 inches of precious space. More if you have large soaking, whirlpool, or Jacuzzi tub. Try installing a rain head shower head them to the ceiling for a true spa like experience! How about multiple shower heads? His and her showers are an emerging trend.

-Teak wood shower trays are another way to enhance the look of your new bathroom. Teak wood is naturally water resistant and adds warmth to its surroundings.

-Adding frameless shower doors enclose the shower without making it feel crowed or dated. Glass is especially great because it doesn’t cut off or hide an area like a shower curtain can and instead adds to the aesthetic of the room. Knowing where to begin readying your bathroom for the holidays can be difficult. There are the usual tasks of de-cluttering and cleaning, but what if your bathroom design itself is the problem? Do the shower doors need to be updated? Will you have elderly guests who need accommodations for easier bathing? Do you have enough bathroom storage? So just remember; determine if your bathroom needs extra space, if items need replacing for better functionality, or if your bathroom just needs to be more aesthetically pleasing. Fiberglass bathtubs are quite common yet these tubs are coated with a thin layer called a gel-coat.  This gel-coat is what gives fiberglass tubs their gloss and shine.  Once the gel-coat wears off, typically after about a year of normal use, stains will begin to show on the tub.   Cast iron and steel tubs are two other alternatives.  These tubs have a porcelain surface baked onto them but sometimes the porcelain doesn’t cover the drain area or overflow area very well.  These areas tend to be problematic over time and once the rust process begins, it won’t stop!
