The holidays are just around the corner! The weather is getting cooler, the holiday décor is being put up, and the parties are just starting. However, are your bathrooms ready for all the festivities as well? With all of the planning, ,cleaning, and prepping, the bathroom may be the one room we overlook when hosting holiday parties. Keep in mind, your guests will encounter this room throughout holiday event. Your out of town guests will be spending a considerable amount of time in bathroom. So ask yourself: Are your bathrooms cramped, unorganized, or just plain outdated?
Knowing where to begin readying your bathroom for the holidays can be difficult. There are the usual tasks of de-cluttering and cleaning, but what if your bathroom design itself is the problem? Try considering the functionality of your bathroom first. Is it a half-bath (a small bathroom that only includes a commode and a vanity or pedestal sink) or a full guest bathroom (includes a commode and vanity, plus a shower/bathtub, or both)? Next, consider what kind of company you will be having. Will you be hosting lots of parties, family, or overnight guests? Maybe both?
For half-baths, you want make sure the sink and vanity area are in good working order. Perhaps the sink has yellowed or cracked over time, maybe the faucets are leaky or the cabinets chipped. This area is going to get lots of use, so you want to be sure it can hold up throughout not only season but for a lifetime. For full bathroom, not only do you have the same considerations, you will need to consider the bathroom. Has the grout around your tile gotten moldy or impossible to clean? Do the shower doors need to be updated? Will you have elderly guests who need accommodations for easier bathing? Do you have enough bathroom storage? Maybe your bathroom is simply outdated. The 1980’s were over 30 years ago! Those flowered wallpapered walls and gold metal-framed shower doors are ready for the curb!
So just remember; determine if your bathroom needs extra space, if items need replacing for better functionality, or if your bathroom just needs to be more aesthetically pleasing. Of course, your bathroom may not require a full remodel, but this is the one room everybody will see so show-off a little!
