What About Bathroom Fixtures?

You’re finally ready to start your bathroom makeover project. All of the decisions have been made for the large items: bathtub, shower, toilet, sink, walls, floors etc. There is that one lingering item though – fixtures. How much thought have you given to the bathroom fixtures? The variety of fixtures today can seem overwhelming to say the least. Where do you start? For bathroom fixtures, it’s simple – just pick your style. Ask yourself, how do I want my bathroom to feel? Are you modern, contemporary, timeless, transitional or a combination of all? Secondly, you need to select which finish will compliment your style. So let’s break down your bathroom makeover style.

CONTEMPORARY:

Also known as modern, a contemporary look keeps things uncluttered and minimalist.

  • borrows from architectural elements

  • clean lines

  • bold angles

  • geometric forms

TRADITIONAL:

This look is characteristically ornate and bold. Heavy lines are often contrasted with curved details.

  • sleek spouts

  • dramatic curves

  • inspiration taken from mother nature

TIMELESS

Like a black dress or nice suit, a timeless look is something that never goes out of style.

  • classic style

  • modern functionality

TRANSITIONAL:

This can sound like an oxymoron. Transitional simply combines two different styles. A great choice for those indecisive types.

  • bridges contemporary and traditional

  • scrolling and angles on the same fixture

Bathroom fixtures are the “finishing touches” to your bathroom makeover. The most popular finishes are: oil rubbed bronze, brushed nickel, and chrome. Although some finishes lend themselves to one style more than others, all bathroom fixtures can be found in any finish. Remember, all the details of your bathroom remodel are important.

I see at some of these are laminar flow fixtures which I consider to be the worst mistake I made in building my home last year. They are a giant step backwards over 50 years in fixture design. Aerated flow was nice and splash resistant and kept water reasonably contained within the sinks. These new laminar flow fixtures with their sculpturally clean looking flow hit whatever you’re washing with such force that the water flies every where. A badly placed bowl in the sink can send the entire stream across your kitchen. Anything with a small depression like a spoon or even just washing your hands can send water everywhere. EVERY time I use these fixtures I have to mop up afterwards.

      Hey,

Thanks for the feedback! I agree with you about the sink shapes. Many people do not consider practicality when picking out a vessel style or look for their vanity top or sink. Many of the new modern looks are not as ideal when put into use. We have mentioned such issues with our sink designers when we feel the bowl can be too shallow.
